about us
The ACORN Institute Canada is a charitable organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. We work alongside low- and moderate-income communities to support research, education, leadership development, and community-driven solutions to poverty, housing insecurity, financial inequality, and social exclusion. Our work is grounded in the lived experiences of everyday people and shaped by the belief that those most affected by systemic issues should play a central role in solving them.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to strengthen communities by producing accessible research, delivering practical education, and curating grassroots community leaders. We believe lasting change happens when people have the tools, information, and support needed to advocate for themselves and their neighbours. Through community-led education, research projects, workshops, publications, and community partnerships, we help turn lived experience into action.
What is AIC?
ACORN Institute Canada (AIC) is a charitable organization that uses research and training to address the problems in low-income communities. We believe that the poverty, discrimination, and community deterioration that exists in low-income communities is a result of a lack civic engagement, community leadership and financial literacy. Participants in our leadership development program have taken on many pressing issues, from housing to internet access, while building skills and forging strong bonds with their neighbours.
ACORN Institute Canada is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency, and we work with community partners across Canada to carry out our projects.
